The Cross Keys is named after the sign of Saint Peter, the gatekeeper of Heaven, but it could be said there is nothing saintly about this stunning bar & eaterie - actually the complete opposite.

Since being taken over by James Callery and team, this one-time sports bar is now home to a quirky ‘steam punk’ inspired bar area with open fires, amazing decor and 40 seats for enjoying the amazing array of Cuban-inspired dishes & drinks on offer.

The full-length open street food kitchen completes what is now one of most popular destinations in Newbury for eating out & atmosphere.

    - steam punk inspired bar
    - 40-seat eating area
    - fun & quirky events
    - dog friendly
    - large selection of cocktails
    - great range of beers & spirits
    - open street food kitchen

Even the incredible artwork in the toilets needs to be experienced - all courtesy by Arkell's signwriter extraordinaire, Sarah.

"Being a Licensee is a fine and rewarding job", says Chris, and it helps that the Arkell’s directors are approachable. "We had a lot of help and they provide us with regular information, but ultimately it's up to us."

Chris Manners is the Licensee of three Arkell’s pubs. The Rusty Bicycle, The Rickety Press and The Bottle of Sauce
