Why Arkell's

Arkell’s Brewery was founded in 1843 by John Arkell and with a history that dates back over 180 years, it’s Swindon’s oldest business.

Owning and operating nearly 100 pubs across the Cotswolds, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire & Hampshire area, Arkell’s head office is within easy reach of all its pubs and ready to offer experience and support. Generations of the Arkell’s family work alongside brewery staff (many from families which have themselves been part of the brewery for generations), brewing and selling beer.

Many of our tenants and managers have been with us for years, too, and we treat them as part of the family. Importantly, we ensure each and every pub within the Arkell’s network adheres to high standards, but every one has its own personality and reflects its local community. We really do believe the pub is the hub.

"Being a Licensee is a fine and rewarding job", says Chris, and it helps that the Arkell’s directors are approachable. "We had a lot of help and they provide us with regular information, but ultimately it's up to us."
